Why is Health Canada distributing funds to the Métis National Council (MNC) for this project?

Funding for this project is derived from all First Ministers signing on to the 2004 Health Accord. This accord reflected that all signatories agreed that the heart of any health care system was based on providers who deliver that health care to the public. As such the federal government of Canada initiated a strategy for funding and evaluating projects that would increase the number, training levels, distribution and recruitment of those providers. The Métis Health and Human Resources Scholarship, Bursary and Training Program is an element of that objective.
