Why is Hannibal important?
Hannibal was important because he was the brilliant, and chief military leader of Carthage, Rome’s enemy. While he was beating Rome for a while, he eventually failed and Carthage was destroyed leaving a vacuum of power that Rome later filled. Without Carthage in the Mediteranian sea, there was basically no major power left to challenge Rome’s expansion except for the decaying fragments of Alexander the Great’s empire, Greece, Macedonia, Egypt, etc. and they eventually sucumbed to Rome’s advances.
