Why is Goa so cheap for a holiday compared to places like maldives etc?
Maldives is much smaller with a population of about 55,000 whereas the population in the state of Goa is about 1.3milliona and the actual land mass is much bigger. As such competition is greater in Goa, and the state has access to products within India which are invariably lower priced. Maldives relys on a great deal of imports, so it costs a lot more for food, drink, clothes, land (as there is a lot less of it) and labour. Maldives has made a positive effort to minimise the number of developments and thus keep supply low while demand is high. They have tried in Goa, but there is allready a great deal of supply. As we all know India is a rapidly developing country, and there are a great deal of domestic tourists who visit the state all year around unlike Maldives where it is only during part of the year, so their hotels are empty for part of the year unlike goa, they thus have to recoup the costs.
