Why is GIS important to the Town of Ajax?
GIS provides us with a lot of tools which were not available before. Our staff can use GIS to find properties by owner name, address, roll number, etc., and indicate where this property is on a map. Fire and Emergency Services use the files I create to find the location of emergencies through their computer-aided dispatch program. Analysis of data for things like our annual housing report now takes minutes instead of weeks. Later this year I will be placing our new Zoning By-law on the Internet which will allow the public and staff to access the By-law online and to search for information. What do you do in a typical day? Fortunately for me, there is no typical day.
