Why is Gale Storm from the TV show My Little Margie being mourned across the world?”
Goodbye to Gale Storm. She was an actress and singer who skyrocketed to stardom in the 1950’s with hit shows “My Little Margie” and “The Gale Storm Show”. She’s the latest star to have passed away in long, sad week for Holly Wood. My father was a child of the 50’s and I have personally grown up watching every Western, 3 Stooges, Laurel and Hardy, Marx Brothers, and well, you get the hint. Those actresses from the 40’s and 50’s were classy and beautiful and Gale Storm was both.
Gale Storm, who died Saturday at age 87, was one of the most-popular actresses in the pioneer days of television. It took many by surprise. She had primarily made “B” movies with not much to brag about. When “I Love Lucy” took its summer break in 1952, Gale was cast as Margie Albright in “My Little Margie” to temporarily fill Lucy’s time spot. To the surprise of network executives, Gale’s personality charmed the TV audience enough that “Margie” wound up lasting three years. She then went on to “The Gale Storm Show,” cast as Susanna Pomeroy. The show lasted four seasons. Gale was also a talented singer. By then, her career had begun to go downhill but audiences who enjoyed her personality were delighted when she would show up on one TV show or another with a cameo appearance. Her final role was in an episode of “Murder She Wrote” in 1989.
