Why is Friday the 13 so unlucky?

0

It might be because there were originally thirteen (13) disciples – but the one called Judus Iscariot (13) pointed out Jesus to the Romans, who then took him away. And it was upon a Friday that Jesus was put to death on the Cross to save our souls from everlasting Hell and damnation and to bring us to Heaven by his good mercy and grace.

Paraskevidekatriaphobics- To be sacred of friday the thirteenth. The answer to this question begins during the Crusades It involves the Knights Templar, the Pope, and King Phillip of France. The Knights Templar became a very powerful and wealthy order. The King squandered his wealth, and Pope Clement V felt intimidated by the Templars. On the date of Friday the Thirteenth 1307 the king had all of the Templars arrested and persecuted, some tortured for the location of a large amount of treasure that was supposedly hidden. it is also unlucky because Christ was crucified on that day, Adam and Eve were expelled from Eden, and Noah’s arch flooded. Friday the 13th is not inherently nore unlucky than any other day of the week or month; it is simply called unlucky because so many (mainly Christian) historical events are associated with either a Friday, the 13th or both. …then theres because many people are freaked by the number 13, which is a whole different story…

Most people seem to think it’s because of the disbanding of the Knight’s Templar and I suspect Dan Brown has something to do with popularising this belief. However, the date Friday 13th has had sinister connotations especially around Christians right the way back to biblical times. Jesus was supposedly executed on a Friday (the day of preparation for the sabbath, the sabbath being Saturday). If we count Jesus himself, there were thirteen people at the last supper. Since Judas Iscariot is the last of the apostles to be mentioned in at least one of the lists, Judas is commonly believed to be the 13th person at the last supper and the one who betrayed Jesus. Therefore some christians had a problem with the number 13 as well as a problem with a Friday, so naturally when a friday fell on the 13th day of the month it was considered doubly unlucky. According to wikipedia, there is a similar belief that Friday 13th is unlucky.
