Why is Firefox repeatedly prompting me to choose a certificate when trying using Blackboard or other Dartmouth web applications?
The above dialog box can pop up multiple times for a single page refresh. This is happening because Firefox has recently changed its default certificate handling behavior. Previously Firefox would automatically present your Dartmouth PKI cert to Dartmouth websites that asked for it. However this has now changed so that Firefox will prompt you to choose a certificate manually. To get rid of this behavior go to Tools -> Options… -> Advanced -> Encryption (Windows) or Preferences -> Advanced -> Encryption (OS X) and choose the Select one automatically radio button under the heading “When a server requests my personal certificate:” Quit and restart Firefox to apply the setting.
