Why is ETTCI requiring recertification?
This professional development policy reflects the thinking that there are continual and significant changes in technology and methodology. It is not acceptable to pass an exam at one point in time and claim competence forever. Today, with certification being used as evidence that an individual has acquired a certain level of competence and knowledge in a specialty area, recertification is becoming the method of choice to periodically reconfirm that competence and knowledge. The requirement has also been put into place in response to demands being put on all certifying bodies by rule makers and consumer advocate groups to “protect the public” by providing evidence of continued competence after certification has been awarded.
