Declining enrollment is a state-wide phenomenon fueled by a decreasing birth rate, the lack of affordable and moderately priced housing, and now by a dramatic loss of home value. CVUSD has lost 404 elementary students this year. Projections are for a loss of more than 330 elementary students in each of the schools years 2010/11 and 2011/12 and approximately 240 elementary students in 2012/13. The population in Chino is eventually projected to grow, but has not done so at the rate previously expected.
