Why is endowment for programs and student life needed?
Lehigh has established a reputation for innovative, niche-programs (like biopharmaceuticals, global citizenship, and computer science and engineering) that give students an advantage after graduation. The funds generated by endowment are needed to maintain established programs and fuel new ventures by the university in the face of peer competition and the ever-growing needs of students. Endowment is also needed to help maintain the facilities and resources for our students. Linderman Library, which has not been renovated since 1929 and still lacks air conditioning, is a priority for the campaign. Endowment is also needed for Zoellner Arts Center, which serves as an academic resource for students and well as a vibrant focal point for the arts community. Of course, not all learning happens in the classroom. Endowment dedicated to providing a great undergraduate experience including athletics will also help Lehigh attract talented students and help them develop into successful leaders.
