Why is endoscopic axillary breast augmentation better than non-endoscopic axillary breast augmentation?
With the endoscopic and the non-endoscopic axillary breast augmentation the incision is made in the natural crease of the armpit. However, with the endoscopic technique all the surgical dissection is performed with an endoscope. An endoscope is a pencil sized camera that displays the images on a large television screen in the operating room. This is similar to how orthopedic surgeons, gynecologists, and general surgeons perform their minimally invasive operations such as knee surgery, gall bladder surgery and hysterectomy. The endoscope allows the plastic surgeon to precisely create the breast pocket for the breast implant. This causes significantly less tissue trauma and more accurate placement of the implant than the non-endoscopic axillary breast augmentation. Dr. Cambeiro feels that the axillary breast augmentation SHOULD NOT be performed without the use of an endoscopic camera.
