Why is electronic KERS the most preferred system?
To clear the fundamental of the Kinetic Energy Recovery System (KERS), firstly, it is the “electric” system that we generally refer to when talking about KERS. There are three main concepts that KERS may work on. 1. Mechanical (flywheel) 2. Electric (battery) 3. Hydraulic Although the first two are the most common, constructors like Williams are not using the “electric” system alone. Use of an electrically driven flywheel brings out the optimum ratio of power generated per unit weight of the system. It helps in keeping the levels of energy stored as high as possible, along with the minimum weight of the system to keep the car light.
