Why is Edward Cullen from Twilight (the novel) so degrading?

You are aware that in real life, Edward would be considered psychotic, right? He’s an abusive boyfriend. He stalks Bella. He breaks into her house to watch her sleep. He’s constantly telling her how stupid she is for wanting to be with him, but then totally contradicting this with his own creepily obsessive actions. He takes away things that he has no right to take. He’s controlling, being so determined that she will not see her best friend that he destroys her car and kidnaps her so she can’t. He wants to drug her and forcibly abort her baby. He is not a good person. And really, Meyer can insist he’s beautiful as much as she wants, but cold, hard white skin and yellow eyes with dark bruises underneath them isn’t attractive.
