Why is easier for some people to connect to God and harder for others?
I think for the same reason it is easier to connect with their spouse or their friends for some. People have various states of dysfunctionalality. There are people who have’t cultivated their affective (emotional) life. I know people who haven’t heard from themselves for six months. How are they going to hear from God? It simply has to do with the cultivation of the state of the soul. To the degree that a person carefully cultivates the faculties of the soul, they will be able to get in touch with God more deeply. Now God needs to help us with that of course. A rushed, busy life is one where a person will not be able to have a relationship with anyone. The best way to think about this is not to think of God, but rather to think about personal relationships and apply that to God. There is really no difference in principle between me and God and me and my relationship with my children or friends.
