Why is early treatment of STI important?
Early and effective treatment of STIs decreases the amount of HIV in genital secretions and reduces the risk of spread to other sexual partners and also reduces the risk of contracting HIV from infected partners. Early diagnosis and treatment of STIs is important because it would prevent the serious complications that can occur as a result of untreated STI, such as infertility, ectopic pregnancy, genital cancers, blinding eye disease, major nervous system infections in infants.
