Why is early intervention important in recognosing a child with special needs?
Simply, from my perspective, a special needs child deserves to have intervention at an early age to maximize his potential. A special needs child needs to have his/her needs met. Emphasis should be put on a child’s ability to achieve when provided with the right tools (teachers, environment, learning aides..) To deny a child with special needs to opportunity to acquire skills within his or her reach should be regarded as criminal. This nation needs an awareness campaign on this very issue. Also, I imagine the reason some of the children are cutting class, dropping out of school, using drugs and ‘giving up’ is because they were denied access to special services that were in place for them but out of the question for their parents egos. That attitude is d**n destructive.
