Why is each bol capitalized ?
This is a stylistic feature designed to give each bol (lit. word) a unique ascii sequence to identify it. The criteria for selecting the ascii set are: • Uniquely identify each bol. Resolve confusion in sequences like “tktrkttktrekre”. • Pronunciation as close as possible to the written word. • Spelling generally accepted by the tabla community. • Limited use of special symbols or odd characters. • Limited use of logical expressions that fall off beat when interpreted. • It must be compatible with the web, and displayed as simple text. Resources do not permit using anything more elaborate (like notation systems that detail bayan tonal inflection).
