Why is Duct/Duck Tape so difficult to tear the traditional way?

We love it because it is stronger and stickier than other tapes – but that makes it heavy and difficult to work with. You must make contact to the sticky tape with both hands, each time, for each tear – it’s tough! It’s loaded with fibers (little stringy-things) and depending on the tape – that can make tearing even harder!
