Why is divorce rate in America relatively high comparing to Asian countries?
In America, people have more freedom. In Asian countries, such as India, divorce is considered embarrassing and frowned upon socially. It is considered bad for your reputation. It can also be difficult legally to get one. Arranged marriages are notoriously unhappy and hard to get out of. They are also known for high rates of infidelity. Just because Asian countries might have a lower divorce rate than America, it doesn’t mean that people’s marriages are any more stable or happy. It just means that people are afraid or unable to get a divorce. Americans know what they want or need in life and are not scared to pursue it. We get out of unhealthy relationships, and seek out healthier, happy relationships. Women also have more rights here. American women are free to do what they want, and we don’t have to stay with an abuser or a cheater because we’ll be shamed if we leave. Here, people are supportive.
