Why is dilute sulfuric acid used rather than deionised water to dissolve the iron tablet?
Assuming that you mean the ‘Iron Tablets’ you might take if you are anaemic and that you are going to carry out a titration (possibly with potassium manganate(VII)) to find the amount of iron(II) compound in the iron tablets… [1] the titration needs to be carried out under acidic conditions – so you may as well use dilute acid to make the solution at this stage rather than adding more later. [2] iron(II) is less likely to be oxidised (to iron(III)) by atmospheric oxygen in acidic solution than in neutral solution – and for an accurate result you don’t want any of the iron converted to iron(III) before you do the titration.
