Why is Digitek being recalled?
Digitek’s producer, Actavis Totowa, announced in April that it was recalling the drug due to a double dose of digitalis in each pill leading to digitalis toxicity. However, the company was warned as far back as 2006 by the FDA and the US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) that there were problems with Digitek. Digitalis toxicity can cause serious health problems or even death. Those who have renal problems are susceptible due to the kidneys’ inability to excrete a build-up of digitalis in the system.
