Why is Darjeeling Tea regarded as the most expensive tea in the world?
500 kg of dry tea is the yield per acre in the fine tea growing valleys of Darjeeling. The lower elevation around Darjeeling produces about a third of many non-specialty tea. The result of 20,000 individually hand picked leaves only produces about 100 grams of finished tea. Therefore the high price is somewhat of a compensation for the unique and esteemed muscatel flavored tea. But most of all the reason for exorbitant rate is because of its very high cost of cultivation.
