In 1998, Senate Bill 890 became Public Law 105-326, when President Clinton signed the legislation. The Law provided for the privatization of Dutch John, giving Daggett County approximately 2400 acres of land. Most of the houses and surveyed lots have already been sold. The lots up for sale in January of 2008 formerly had storage units on them. The County has a Disposal Ordinance that directs how the sale of the lands within Dutch John will be handled.
