Why is Cymer considered a “front-end” capital equipment company?
Front-end means several things in the semiconductor industry. In this context, front-end refers to the fact that Cymer products are used early in the manufacturing process while the devices are still being created on a whole silicon wafer. Back-end refers to testing and production steps performed after the wafer has been cut or “diced” into individual integrated circuits.
