Why is correct addressing important?
The St. Louis County Communications Center (911 Dispatch) asked if we would look into readdressing the campus to better match the numbering system of the surrounding community. The dispatch staff was having difficulty dealing with our non-standard addresses and had complaints that UMD s addresses were confusing for emergency response crews. Around the same time, the University Fire Code Inspector told us we must begin to put building addresses on the outside of all our buildings. There were additional problems with East University Circle, several unnamed streets, as well as conflict with other governmental agencies. We decided that it was a good time to solve all of these problems at once to create a safer, more easily navigated campus.
