Why is core stability such an issue nowadays?
This is an interesting question that challenges coaches in all parts of the world today. Speculating, I can only observe that changes in lifestyle, affluence and public safety have made it less common for young athletes to present to physical education teachers and coaches with a good foundation of strength, balance, coordination and yes, core stability. In the past children walked to and from school, played outside their houses till dark and would return after strenuous games of chasing, tree climbing, bicycle riding etc. This is no longer the case and we may blame the car and computer age for the fact that our children spend more of the day in a sitting position than in the past. Whatever the true reasons the modern coach must face the task of remedying weak core stability as a priority before throwing athletes into intensive training programs.
