Why is confidentiality important in schools?

There are many reasons why it is important for schools to have a confidentiality policy. Confidentiality and personal privacy needs to be protected… It’s essential that any discussions or comments regarding students or family issues are not voiced in the presence of children or parents. Anything that concerns a child, parent, or staff member — should stay in the center, school, or program. Children don’t want gossip spreading about themselves…nor do parents want gossip going on about their child, themselves, or home life. Would you? Think about the self-esteem and feelings of the child and parents… Sadly, adults often aren’t careful in what they say. Nearby youth and other adults can often hear what should only be shared with those involved. Also children who are in foster care, witness protection or ones who have for example a dangerous parent who isnt allowed access to the child must ben protected and confidentiality helps this be done safely.
