It is the first time Burnett has anchored the weekday edition of Today, although she has co-anchored on the weekend and filled in as newsreader in the past. In her new contract announced last July, NBC duties were added, reported at the time to be “fill-in co-anchor on ‘Weekend Today.'” In her first day of hosting, Monday, June 8, 2009, Burnett interviewed New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson and actress Kathy Griffin, known for her Emmy Award winning reality show on Bravo, “Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List”. Rebecca Jarvis is filling in for Burnett on her regular weekday morning job of co-hosting “Squawk Box” on CNBC.
