Why is chlorine dioxide used for disinfection?
ClO2 is an approved water disinfectant in most countries. The WHO’s drinking water directive also lists chlorine dioxide as an effective disinfectant. It is two to three times more effective than chlorine and also removes the biofilm in pipes. Other disinfectants are not able to achieve this in the concentrations permitted for drinking water.
