Why is chiropractic medicine controversial among MDs?

Asked by: johnyscrawny what is the difference in the approach of medical doctors (MDs) such as sports medicine specialists and Chiropractors that has made the chiropractic medicine so controversial and, dare I say, disrespected by some? I don’t mean to be critical but it seems that most people that I know who visit a chiropractor never really get fully cured, rather continue to be treated for the same condition for the rest of their lives. Am I being fair? Answer by Dr. Robert Rainey on 3/19/2009: Some people have chronic pain. The average person that comes to my office has been taking NSAIDS for an average of a few years. Many times they are afraid to tell their MD what they really take, I assume they are taking them and ask how long. The average number of treatments in my office for acute pain is 12 visits. Some people do not do recommended exercises, continue the same poor habits etc. and we do not “cure” them. How can someone be cured if they don’t get involved in the outcome? Answ
