Why is ceetol cellulosic ethanol better than corn ethanol?
Guest5791872 Cellulosic Ethanol (Ceetol) is produced by converting cellulose to sugar. The sugar is then fermented and converts to alcohol. The cellulose is encased in lignin or lignocellulose which binds the cellulose together. Traditional methods of harvesting the cellulosic material proved hard because the tough lignin material had to first be broken down in order to convert the cellulose to sugars by fermentation. New methods and new techology for Ceetol production have been created in the past 2 years prior to May 2009 and now the cellulose can be “extracted” more easily. Cellulose can now be harvested from growing and non growing material (wood fallen from trees or municipal waste sources). Scientists are working on a further method of ceetol production called the Bactranol process whereby bacteria is used to convert the cellulose directly into sugars. The future for ceetol production is bright!
