Yes, in fact, it’s even tougher than that. I’ve tried it, and while I can use the ‘paintbrush’ and create Chinese characters that are recognizable, I find them disgustingly ugly. So the key is not to just write the characters, but to following a myriad of rules and techniques to create a work of art. Each individual character is a work of art, and together with the rest of the characters they must also form a collective work of art. I envy anyone who has put in the time and effort to be able to write pleasing Chinese calligraphy.
