Why is Calc98 free of charge?
In 1995, when Calc98 was initially released as “shareware”, we analysed the economics of distributing this type of product. We found that the effort expended by users in arranging payment and the corresponding effort of collection of payment didn’t make sense. We therefore decided to make registration free. Although it was an unusual approach for a commercial organization to take at the time, subsequent developments in the software marketplace have now established this as a valid business model.
