Why is Bryn Mawr making the change to “test flexible”?

In light of the recent national conversation regarding the role of standardized testing in the admissions process the Bryn Mawr Faculty Admissions Committee embarked upon a review of the validity of the SAT, ACT, and Subject Tests in predicting performance at Bryn Mawr. The committee confirmed for Bryn Mawr what has been found to be the case at other institutions: subject tests predict academic performance better than the SAT for many of our applicants. As a result, the committee decided to enhance the college’s current policy by providing applicants with an additional testing option focused on subject mastery and including Advanced Placement exam results in the menu of possible subject tests.
