Why is Bolinas, California referred to as a “Hippie Town”?”
I lived in a commune at Bolinas in the mid/late 60’s. We had a rep of being ‘working’ and industrious on the mesa. There was also a number of artists and musicians living there who could’ve been tagged as hippies I suppose. Having been raised in Marin circa the 40’s, 50’s, and 60’s I’d never heard of Bolinas being referred to as such. Probably if it that expression was used it was because Bolinas had always been a tad out of the mainstream, quite literally.
