Why is bimolecular dehydration not appropriate for the preparation of ethyl methyl ether?

0

Can’t prepare “mixed” ethers this way. You will get three ethers if you try to react methanol + ethanol with sulfuric acid at high temp in a bimolecular dehydration reaction. The reaction won’t “know” that you want just ethyl methyl ether, so you will get all possible combinations, including dimethyl ether and diethyl ether.
