Why is BGE testing and demonstrating PHEVs?
BGE’s testing and demonstration of PHEVs helps the utility and its customers understand this developing technology. BGE will explore ways to use the technology and to work with customers to help to make it easy for them to manage the charging cycles for the cars. With the information learned, BGE can develop tools and strategies to help manage the charging impacts on the grid and the energy costs to the customers. In addition, BGE will examine technologies and tools needed to allow the cars to send power back into the home or utility grid when it is available. In the future, the utility industry foresees a day when the energy in the batteries can be used to supplement the power to the home or grid to help reduce costs and support reliability.
