Why is Australia a monarchy and not a republic?

0

Australia is a monarchy today because the British government at the time of federation made it a condition of Australia becoming an independent nation we must adopt the British head of state as our head of state ( funnily enough if Britain becomes a republic the president of the Uk would be king/queen of Australia). Australians have never had the option on voting for the monarchy, the closest we came was on a referendum on whether to adopt one or two suggested model from a republic, it was not a vote for a monarchy. I think we need a simple plebiscite Republic or monarchy as the way to move forward, only once this is decided (and I expect the vote will be for a republic) should discussion start on what model to use, and the monarchists will not be able to continue to use the divide and conquer tactics which is why they so strongly object to such suggestions.
