Why is ashtanga yoga not always suitable for people over 60?
Ashtanga Yoga is traditionally not advised for those over 60 in the Indian tradition, as this is the stage of one’s life that is traditionally devoted to other forms of yoga, such as Bakti Yoga (yoga of devotion), or chanting for example. Ashtanga yoga can be very physically challenging and may not be suitable for the joints in a person over 60. However, each case is individual and if you have been very active throughout your life, you may be able to take Ashtanga Yoga. Please speak to us if unsure.
