Why is AS03-adjuvant included in GlaxoSmithKline’s H1N1 vaccine?
Available clinical data have shown that an oil-in-water adjuvanted vaccine can help mount a robust response against possible pandemic viruses such as the H5N1 and H1N1 influenza viruses. For this reason, GlaxoSmithKline has chosen an adjuvant formulation because a smaller amount of antigen is needed for each dose of vaccine produced (dose sparing) as its preferred option for its pandemic influenza vaccines. Canada supported the World Health Organization recommendation to use adjuvanted influenza vaccine to protect Canadians.
