Why is Aruba and The Netherland Antilles showing as separate countries at the Olympics?

The relation of The Netherlands with ‘De Nederlandse Antillen’ (The Dutch Antilles) is quite a complicated one. That’s why I will limit myself in my answer to some main data. Aruba is independent since 1986 WITHIN the Kingdom of the Netherlands but decided in 1991 not to become completely independent. The Dutch Government gave its word that, if the decision to become completely independent would be taken by Aruba, the Dutch Government would give as much help as it is able to. Aruba is a prosperous island with some 100.000 inhabitants and about 1.250.000 tourists. It still receives help to develop itself and especially keep the infrastructure and educational system intact. Aruba has the highest income per head in the whole Caribbean area. You can find all data on the tourist-industry and other aspects og Aruba using Google Images. Sources: Being a Dutchman I had to learn about The Dutch Antilles at school. Now GOOGLE an the Wikipedia give correct information.
