Why is AR (Accelerated Reading) so important?
AR or Accelerated Reading is very important at MMS. AR accounts for a large percentage of your child’s reading grade. So, if they are not reading their AR books, their grade will suffer tremendously. Students are encouraged to meet two goals each nine weeks in AR: point goal and book level goal. These goals are set at the beginning of each nine weeks by the teacher. If the student meets both goals and has a AR test average of 90% or higher, they will be recognized at the nine week’s honors program. If they achieve this goal for the whole school year, they have the opportunity to attend a special field trip in May. *I recommend that students read their AR book at home every night for at least 15-20 minutes.
