Why is Anthracite coal sometimes damp when delivered?
A. All premium Anthracite is processed and cleaned with water at the breaker. When Shope’s receives the coal from the breaker, it is usually drenched with water. Storage in our bins allows the water to drain and evaporate. Of course, it has more chance to dry during times of low demand than in winter when many loads per week are distributed from Shope’s yard. Q. Does Shope’s mix brands or grades of coal? A. No! No! No! At Shope’s, you are assured that we never mix coal unless requested to do so by the customer. Note: If you ever experience what you feel is a variation in quality of coal from Shope’s, inform us immediately! At Shope’s, we make every effort at quality control and if a problem exists, we know that the responsibility rests with the producer or mine. Please return a sample of coal and ash to us so that we can send it on to the mine for analysis. We will do our utmost to remediate any problem. Thank you.
