Why is an Importer Number important?
The Importer Number is a required, unique ID number that governments use to identify companies or individuals. In the U.S., a company tax ID number is called an EIN (Employer Identification Number). In Europe, it is called a VAT (Value Added Tax) number, in Mexico, it is called an RFC number, and in Canada, a BN (Business Number). Governments require a tax ID number on certain documents. Contact the person you are doing business with for their tax ID number. To determine your country’s Importer number requirements, contact your local government tax/excise department.
