Why is an agreement better than litigation?
• Litigation is a lengthy and costly process and the outcome of any litigation is never certain. • In the absence of a negotiated settlement, litigation could continue into 2007 and beyond. • Even if Canada is ultimately successful with current litigation, without a negotiated settlement, nothing prevents the U.S. lumber lobby from launching further legal actions against imports of Canadian softwood lumber.
