Why is America so religious despite high education levels?
The education system still isn’t all that great in the US, and varies from location to location. In some areas, the education is good in others it is not. Also, thanks to laws like NCLB much of the education has become more and more focused on rote memorization and teaching to the test- which is very bad for critical thinking skills and developing motivation to learn. Also, thanks to some creationist nutjobs, science education in the US is pretty bad. We’re also behind in math. And literacy. And many Americans are bad at geography and history too. As a soon-to-be teacher I’m hoping for changes in the education system because it is pretty lousy. And some religious people send their child to religious schools or homeschool them, and focus on trying to make sure that their child believes exactly as they do. That’s what my parents did (and obviously it didn’t work). Also, some areas of the US (such as the “Bible belt”) are extremely religious and their education policies, etc reflect that.
