Why is affordable housing required in Poway?
There are two main reasons. First, State law requires the City to provide sufficient housing opportunities for the State’s growing population. A Regional Housing Allocation Plan drafted by SANDAG pursuant to this law determines the minimum number of affordable housing units Poway must accommodate in its Housing Element during a given five-year period. Second, redevelopment agencies provide further legal obligations to provide affordable housing.
