Why is affirmative action a good thing?
In all honesty, I don’t feel it is. I think that, for anything requiring an application, there should be a two-step process. The first step is to have someone look over the person, and see if their history and references check (or, for scholarships, income). Then assign a number to the application and remove the name and any other identifying information. ANY identifying information. The second step should be for someone to look at the application, based solely ON that applicant’s abilities, and decide if they get the job/scholarship/whatever. Affirmative action was done for the right reasons but a failed process. Often it is used to put someone in that is lesser qualified simply because of their status as a minority. THAT is wrong. When a highly qualified individual is denied because someone else is a minority, that shows glaringly what is wrong. I’ve been there. I have actually trained my own supervisor in a job, because he was a minority and so, got the job. *I* was not a minority,
