Why is accredidation so important for college degrees?
Tiffany, I argue that ALL schools are diploma mills. You don’t need to learn a single thing to graduate from any college. (Trust me, it all depends on the effort the person puts into learning, not the resulting paper at the end.) But, it tends to show you paid your dues. That you went through what the interviewer did and that you must have learned something because they did when they went through the process. I think we should go back to what education was hundreds of years ago–basically, self-study. You go to a university and research, read, learn on your own or with a mentor. You do not sit in a lecture hall with 300 other people being spoken to. You do the learning. You do the tests, the research, the first-hand activities. That’s how real learning happens. I agree that any school (accredited or not) will be just as effective at speaking to you. Unfortunately, society at large does not see it that way.
