Why is access to the Dardanelles from the Black Sea important to Russia?

0

The Dardanells was a stragictic focal point of WW1 because it was the only sea access to the Black Sea, Russia’s only warm water port. During winter all of Russia’s other ports frezze over and the country can’t recieve imports by sea. As Turkey was not letting any ships through the Dardanells Russia decided that it was top priority that they reclaim the area so ships could pass through and replenish Russia with supplies.
